Chairman’s Report Graduation Congratulations to all our high school and college graduates! Your dedication to achieve this milestone in your life is truly rewarding for you, your family and for our Tribe. Chemawa Station The development of new busi- nesses is underway at Chemawa Sta- tion, just across Chemawa Road from the very successful Keizer Station. Several businesses are under discussion/planning as the land is currently under construction. Those business names will be announced at some time in the very near future. The Siletz and Grand Ronde board for Chemawa Station meets regularly to plan for future development. Siletz board members are Bonnie Peterson, Loraine Butler and myself. Passing of Dean Adams It was very sad to say goodbye to our good friend and former chair- man of the Burns Paiute Tribe, Dean Adams, this past month. He was a strong advocate for his Tribe as well as an accomplished silversmith. He will be greatly missed. Kah-Nee-Ta Reopening Bud Lane and I were given the opportunity to stay at the new Kah- Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort when we attended the Warm Springs Treaty Day celebration, Pi-Ume-Sha. The resort isn’t open yet but we were asked to spend a couple of nights Sert-a-Plug developers return to Siletz Clinic for second study with Tribal members J3 Group LLC (Siletz member owned/operated) and Sert-A-Plug will be at the Siletz Community Health Clinic on Aug. 22-24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the second Personal Attenuation Rating (PAR) study. Tribal members who work in an occupational setting are encouraged to participate. Siletz Tribal members who participated in the first PAR study in April are encouraged to return for this follow-up PAR study and to participate on Aug. 22. The first 40 PAR participants who pass the hearing test and complete the PAR study will receive a $50 gift certificate. There was no staff on board but we were able to walk the facility and view all the new amenities. The resort is quite beautiful, offering several pools, cabanas, hot springs and many other amenities. We were grateful for the offer to spend two nights there. The grand opening should have taken place in July. Culture Camp Culture Camp was in full swing during the second week in July. It was very rewarding to see our members attend in large numbers to learn a new activity – basket weaving, shawl making, flint knapping, etc. All appeared to have a good time as they improved their craft, especially the young kids. A big thank you to all Delores Pigsley the teachers who are so skillful in their area of expertise. Elders Council Meeting No meeting in August due to the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow. The Elders Council will host an in-person/Zoom hybrid meeting on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the Shasta Room at Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City, Ore.
