Death Benefits and Designated Beneficiaries Tribal members have Death Benefits that pay up to $6,000 for funeral and burial costs. Any amount over $6,000 is the responsibility of the family/person making arrangements to pay. If the Tribal member completes the Designated Death Benefit Beneficiary form, then their beneficiary is paid $1,000. There is no restriction on how the beneficiary spends the money and there is no default beneficiary, such as a parent or spouse. The Designated Death Benefit Beneficiary form must be notarized before submitting to the Enrollment Department. 1,649 members do not have a Designated Death Beneficiary. No money can be paid on those accounts. Due to deaths, re-marriages, etc., some forms are outdated and will result in money not going to the desired beneficiary.
