Chairman’s Report Pow-Wow Southern Oregon University The 2019 Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow was a great success. Our Royalty repre- sented the Tribe in an outstanding manner this past year. It was great listening to their last speeches as new young ladies take over those responsibilities (see photo on page 13). The parade grand marshal this year was Tribal elder Aggie Pilgrim. Southern Oregon University in Ash- land, Ore., honored Tribal elder Aggie Pilgrim for her many accomplishments in the past several years. She has honorably represented Tribes in the U.S. and also in many foreign countries. Gov. Kate Brown and her husband, Dan Little, joined us in this year’s celebra- tion. The governor marched in the grand entry with the Tribal Council (see photo on page 10). She was very cordial and well- received by members and other visitors. We were happy she chose to be with us at our annual celebration. I was happy to introduce Aggie at the event, she then received the Presidential Medal from the president of the university, Linda Schott (see photo on page 18). Warm Springs Museum, Huckleberry Festival Tribal Council and others visited the High Desert Museum in Bend, Ore., to Siletz School Reunion set for Sept. 13-14 SILETZ, Ore. – All alumni of Siletz School who were students with a gradu- ation date through 1986 are invited to the 2019 reunion taking place Sept. 13-14. The event will be held at the Elks Campground, “Tokatee Illahee Park,” at 20590 Highway 229 approximately 3 miles north of Siletz near the second green bridge. Classmates and their partners are invited to attend Friday evening (Sept. 13) for a social get-together and trivia contest from 7-11 p.m. On Saturday (Sept. 14) from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., enjoy swapping stories with classmates and friends from your years at SHS. Tickets are $5 or 6 for $25 for a chance to win a handmade Warrior quilt. Dig out those musty $1 bills to purchase raffle tickets at $1 each for the many baskets and other amazing items to be raffled off, including gift certificate packages from Chinook Winds Casino Resort. It was very well-attended and hon- ored two people who have served Indian Country with Lifetime Achievement Awards – Warm Springs Tribal attorney Howie Arnett and Yakama Tribal elder Virginia Beavert. Both gave meaningful talks about their work and reminisced about years of work.
