It brings tears to my eyes as I remember how close we were. My daddy was my best friend. We had so many good times together, taking rides on the weekends to go visit family, mostly to visit one of his children (my sisters or brothers). Sometimes it might be a cousin, Auntie Vick (his sister) and Uncle Archie, wherever his heart desired. I was co-pilot and off we’d go. If it was Siletz, we’d stop at the little store on Highway 229 and get an Orange Crush and peanuts for Dad, a Pepsi and a pepperoni stick for me and a couple of Hershey chocolate bars for each of us. I love my daddy. Dad always told me about Grandma Jane being a Christian, how every morning she would build a fire in the stove, have him go out to get the wood and bring it in for the stove. As she fixed breakfast, she would read scriptures to them (his brothers and sisters) out of the Bible and that is how they started their day before they walked to school. I love that my family is Christian. I know where my heart and love come from. Thank you, Grandma Jane. It hurts me to see how children treat their grandparents with no respect, no love. It’s sad because I would have loved to have had grandparents to love and spend time with. My name is Sylvia L. Butler. I am the youngest of Alton (Smokey) and Eydeth’s (Logan) children. Thank you and love you, Sylvia Butler P.S. Dad would say sinners saved by grace.
