Chairman’s Report Restoration The Tribe celebrated 39 years of restoration at Chinook Winds on Nov. 19. Gov. Kate Brown was our guest speaker for the event. She gave a nice presentation, remembering some historical events for our Tribe. Gov. Brown is no stranger to Oregon Tribes She has served in both the Oregon House and Senate, as secretary of state and as Oregon’s governor after the resigna- tion of John Kitzhaber. She went on to win the election in November as our governor. She served on the Legislative Com- mission on Indian Services for many years and is well-versed on issues faced by Oregon Tribes. We were very proud to have her as our special guest at this year’s Restora- tion Celebration. We wish her well as the newly elected governor and look forward to working with her. Tribal Elder Ed Ben also addressed the audience with his words of wisdom. We were entertained by Head Start stu- dents as well as The Indian and The White Guy (Terry Ree and Bruce Williams). It was an event to remember. I have to give much credit to our Tribal and casino staff for the organiza- tion, decorations and the lunch that was provided. Thank you all! Veterans Celebration Siletz Valley School hosted a memo- rable Veterans Celebration at the school in November. Alfred Lane Jr. was the guest speaker and he spoke of his time serving in the Navy, beginning with World War II and continuing until his retirement. Siletz Community Health Clinic Junior is the oldest male in our Tribe. He and Ed Ben are our two remaining World War II veterans. The students presented a wonderful program with all classes contributing to the celebration. It was great. Per Capita Lots of rumors have swirled regarding a future per capita payment. The real story is that the Tribal Council authorized a per capita to be mailed out by Dec 16, 2016. The funds are from the Contract Sup- port Settlement from Indian Health Service and the Ramah Settlement from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and total $4,434,174. Please see additional details in the story on page 1. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
