Chairman’s Report Oregon Tribes meeting June was a busy month for the Tribal Council. We celebrated Treaty Days with the Warm Springs Tribe at its annual Pi-Ume-Sha Days. In addition, an Oregon Tribes meeting took place there on June 25-26. Sharon Edenfield and I attended the governor’s dinner hosted by the Warm Springs Tribe. The dinner honored the memory of Gov. Victor Atiyeh and it was very memorable. His family was in attendance; a cer- emony took place as the family returned a loaned headdress that was given to the governor several years ago. I spoke to the audience about the ceremony and our appreciation of the late governor. nearest Tribe, the Legislative Assembly adjourned without acting. The Oregon Tribes spent most of one whole day discussing the new marijuana law in Oregon and how it affects Tribes on reservation land. It was made very clear that marijuana is not legal on reservation or trust lands. The Board of Education defied the Legislature by refusing to adopt a rule under which a Tribe and a school district could reach agreement about a mascot. A large majority of both chambers was ready to show the board that it should follow the law and stick to policies for improving learning. The state of Oregon has a ways to go in developing regulations to deal with the new law. Legislature Despite Sens. Delores Pigsley Logsden Community Club seeks donations to refurbish community center LOGSDEN, Ore. – The Logsden Community Club is a nonprofit that donates a portion of its profits back to the community, including the Siletz Val- ley Volunteer Firefighters. As the only gathering place available in the rural community, the facility is a center for private and club-sponsored events and is available for rent. The club is now seeking donations to fund the refurbishing of the building. CTSI Jobs Tribal employment information is available at ctsi.nsn.us. Because the organization holds 501(c)(3) status, all donations are tax deductible. A $40 donation will purchase one gal- lon of paint and help freshen up the build- ing for the coming years.
