Chairman’s Report NIGA Council members attended the annual National Indian Gaming Association meeting in San Diego in April. It was NIGA’s 30 th anniversary and those regis- tered broke attendance records. NIGA supported our Tribe in our quest to open Chinook Winds. Our Tribe is a proud supporter of NIGA. We were happy that Tribal Chairman Ron Allen (Jamestown S’klallam) was honored with a distinguishing award at this event. Elders Honor Day The Elders Honor Day was a total success this year. Twenty-nine Tribes attended for a total of about 610 people. It was nice to have the veterans so well represented and to see Tony Molina recognized by the Elders for the work he does with Siletz veterans. I received many nice comments and thank yous about the gathering. Thank you to our Elders and adminis- trative and casino staff for the preparation and all the organization that took place for this huge event and for making us shine. Willamette National Forest meeting The Tribal Council met with Willa- mette National Forest officials in April. Items discussed were forest road systems and the gathering of cultural materials (berries, camas, basketry materials, etc). Tribal members can get permits from the Forest Service for such activities. But if you carry a Tribal membership card, there should not be a question of your activities. The Forest Service has been very helpful in assisting in all of our gathering activities.
