More than 75 of the best tattoo artists and piercers from the Pacific Northwest and beyond will show off their intricate ink creations, creating one-of-a-kind designs for you and taking your appoint- ment right on the spot for your first or next tattoo or piercing. Gill “The Drill” Montie is just one of the exciting artists who will attend this event. He is a who’s who of tattoo artist legends, traveling across the nation and tattooing all over the world. He has opened several tattoo parlors, including the famous Gill Montie’s Tat- too on Sunset Boulevard, and founded the world-renowned Inkslinger’s Ball. Matt Gone, otherwise known as “The Checkered Man,” has more tattoos inside his body than anyone in history. He will be onsite for autographs and photos through- out the three-day event. More than 99 percent of Gone’s body is tattooed, including his eyes, tongue and inside his throat. Matt began his bodysuit in 1988 and has an estimated $150,000 in tattoos. His tattoo project was completed in 2008. His full-body tattooing has been featured on the cover of such magazines as LA Times, Skin & Ink, Skin Deep, Savage, Cheri and Bizarre. He also was part of an international ad campaign for Southern Comfort. You may have seen Gone on networks such as Venice Beach Freakshow and The Discovery Channel, and on the programs Medical Incredible and Ripley’s televi- sion show. As The Checkered Man, Gone works up to 20 countries a year. Gone was born with a rare birth defect called Poland syndrome, which causes undeveloped or absent muscles on one side of the body. The tattooing was a way of self-love as Gone wanted to be proud of his body and comfortable in his newly checkered skin. Diagnosed with kidney disease in 2007, Gone uses his tattooed image to raise awareness of rare birth defects, and kidney disease. Tattoo artists make appointments and take walk-ins as time allows to add their works of art onto any blank area of skin you have available. Small, dainty, colorful tattoos suitable for an ankle or shoulder are available, as are large, intricate tattoos that cover an entire head, back, arm or leg. All the tattoo artists have portfolios of tattoos from which you can select or you can bring a sketch and have them design something for you. Several booths will offer piercings, jewelry, clothing and supplies. Snacks and beverages also will be available. If you don’t have an appointment and you’d like to get a tattoo, get here early. Most artists are not as busy during the first hour or so of the show. Hours are 2-10 p.m. on May 8: 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 9; and 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 10. Tickets are $10 per day or $25 for a three-day pass. This is an all-ages event, so children age 12 and under are free. Tribal members enjoy free golf, other discounts Siletz Tribal members can play golf at Chinook Winds Golf Resort at no charge. Golf cart fees are $10 per seat for 9 holes and $15 per seat for 18 holes. Tribal members also receive a 50 percent discount on lessons from golf pro Larry Dealy and a 20 percent discount on merchandise (certain restrictions apply).
