Scholarships Verl and Dorothy Miller Native American Vocational Scholarship INSPIRE Pre-College Program Udall Undergraduate Scholarship Due March 1, 2015 Due March 4, 2015 Due March 1, 2015 The INSPIRE Pre-College Program is a full scholarship open to American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawai- ian junior and senior high school students, including 2015 anticipated graduates, who want to spend three weeks (July 5-25) on the George Washington University (GW) campus to learn about intergovernmental relations between Tribal governments and the federal government. The program centers on a full- day, experiential undergraduate course, Native Politics and the American Politi- cal System, taught by GW faculty with opportunities for students to interview influential Native advocates who work in Washington, D.C. INSPIRE scholarships are awarded to students based on evidence of academic ability, leadership potential and an inter- est in public service. Students from all Tribes and from every part of the U.S. are welcome to apply. There is no application fee for this pro- gram, which is led by the Native American Political Leadership Program at GW and made possible by a generous grant from the AT&T Foundation. The Udall Scholarship program awards $5,000 merit-based scholarships for college sophomores and juniors seek- ing a career in Tribal health, Tribal public policy or the environment. Two- and four-year college students are encouraged to apply. Scholars participate in a five-day orientation in Tucson, Ariz., to learn from and network with experts, their peers and members of the Udall family. The award includes lifetime membership in the Udall alumni community, a vibrant group offering job and internship opportunities, support for public service initiatives and intellectual discussion. Applications must be submitted through a Udall faculty representative at the student’s college or university. A fac- ulty representative directory and schedule of free webinars can be found at http:// udall.gov/OurPrograms/Scholarship/ Apply.aspx. • For American Indian residents of Oregon who are seeking vocational training or certification in Oregon • Recipients may be attending school either full time or part time • May apply for this scholarship for up to four years Howard Vollum American Indian Scholarship Due March 1, 2015 For American Indian residents of Clackamas, Multnomah or Wash- ington counties in Oregon or Clark County in Washington who are seeking a post-secondary degree in science, computer science, engineer- ing or math • Scholarships are $3,000 annual awards and recipients are eligible for up to five years of undergraduate study and two years of graduate study as long as they remain in good aca- demic standing and continue seeking a degree in science, computer science, engineering or mathematics. • National Johnson O’Malley Association Scholarship Due March 6, 2015 This application is for 2015 eligible American Indian senior high school stu- dents only. Send letter of intent to registrar. Line up a summer job. Attend your Senior Awards Night. Review any award letters and be sure you understand the terms and condi- tions that accompany each type of aid. If necessary, arrange for housing and a meal plan (at school). Send thank you notes to any person/ committee from which you received a scholarship. June • 10 Send thank you notes to people who have helped you. Make final decision about which college or university you will attend. If you decide to decline enrollment to a college or university to which you have been accepted, send notice indicating this to the college’s admissions office. Recipients are chosen on the basis of scholastic ability, leadership and need. American Chemistry Society Scholars Program Due May 1, 2015 The American Chemistry Society Scholars Program (ACS) is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research center that is actively investigating the health effects of environmental agents and serving as a resource for the community. ACS awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students who wish to pursue a career in chemistry or related fields. Awards of up to $5,000 are given to qualified students. All Native American High School Academic Team Due March 6, 2015 Awarded to high school seniors who have outstanding academic achievements; leadership in school, civic and extracur- ricular activities; and motivation to serve and succeed. To be considered, nominees must have a minimum 3.3 GPA with an out- standing academic record; have demon- strated leadership and community service activities; and plan to be enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking college fresh- man in the fall.
