October is Domestic Violence ACTION Month (often abbreviated as DVAM), and the CARE Program has a lot of activities planned to raise awareness of domestic violence within our community, break the silence, and continue the conversation to bring an END domestic violence here and everywhere. Throughout the month we will have purple lights and ribbons displayed in businesses and other buildings throughout Siletz. We also ask the community members to wear purple ribbons on their shirts and display purple ribbons on their cars. If you run into someone who asks about the ribbon, take that opportunity to spread the word about domestic violence awareness and help break the silence around talking about it. On Friday, October 10th the Siletz Valley Schools football team will be sporting purple socks during their home game to show support for DVAM. Community members are encouraged to come out and show their support for the team — anyone wearing purple will be entered into a raffle! The CARE Program will also be handing out fun goodies and sharing information about DVAM. We also have a Thirty-One fundraiser and a family BINGO night, along with other fun activities throughout the month. “Like” the Siletz CARE Program on Facebook to find out about all of our different events and see facts and trivia about domestic violence. DVAM Fundraiser—Thirty-One Style! Start your Christmas shopping early or pick up something for yourself. The CARE Program is holding a fundraiser featuring items from Thirty-One Gifts. Clothesline Project It’s the time of year again! The CARE Program will again be participating in the Clothesline Project as part of our Domestic Violence Action Month (DVAM) activities. The Clothesline Project is a public display bearing witness to domestic violence and sexual assault. We will be holding a t-shirt decorating party on Wednesday, October 1st from 4-7pm at the Siletz Tribal Community Center. T-shirts and paints will be provided. All ages are welcome and we will have pizza! On Tuesday, October 7th at noon (weather pending) we will have a public presentation where we put up the t-shirts and share about the Clothesline Project.
