Chairman’s Report election Elections are over and the member- ship has spoken as to the representation to the Tribal Council. Congratulations to Robert Kentta, Loraine Butler and Gloria Ingle. I thank the Tribal Council for re- electing me as Tribal chairman, Bud Lane as vice chairman, Robert Kentta as treasurer and Sharon Edenfield as secre- tary. I look forward to a productive and exciting year. Committees Every year committee solicitation occurs for Tribal members to serve on our Standing Committees. We are thankful that individuals are interested in serving and providing meaningful input to the Tribal Council. Everyone has the opportunity to serve on a committee and provide ideas and advice on committee subjects. Thank you to those of you who have served many years. There are still vacancies on various committees that will be re-advertised (see page 3). Oregon and throughout the nation the role that Indian Tribes played in history. Few if any classes are taught regard- ing true Oregon history, as most of you know. Our Education Department along with the Tribal Council will work dili- gently on this issue. Mascots Marriage/Dissolution of Marriage ordinances Mascot legislation was introduced and passed in the Oregon Legislature that will help Siletz Valley School keep its symbolic mascot “Warriors.” There still is work that needs to be done with the Oregon Department of Education (DOE) in defining our position. The Tribe feels that although the mascot issue may be resolved, for us the bigger issue is still one that DOE must address. Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society Board of Directors Current Vacancy – Term Ending February 2016 Application deadline for consideration to fill the vacant position is March 31, 2014 If you are interested in volunteering to serve as a board member for the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society, please phone the Tribal Council’s executive secretary at 541-444-8203 or 800-922-1399, ext. 1203, to request an application. Deadline to submit an application is prior to the close of business on March 31, 2014. Appointment to the board will be made at the regular Tribal Council meeting in April 2014. The proposed Marriage and Dissolu- tion of Marriage ordinances were read at the Tribal Council meeting in January and posted on the Tribe’s website. We have received several comments that they were difficult to find on the website, so the ordinances will be printed in the April issue of Siletz News.
