Antique expert Loomis will appraise treasures at Chinook winds Frank Farmer Loomis IV is all about antiques and he will visit Lincoln City in February during Antique Week. A former appraiser for Antiques Roadshow and writer and co-producer of the PBS television series Is It Antique Yet?, Loomis also has written several books on antiques, is an antique dealer and is a contributor to several antique journals. Loomis will be the appraiser for Lincoln City’s Antique Week, set for Feb. 7-17. He will hold verbal appraisal clinics at Chinook Winds Casino Resort’s Appraise-A-Thon on Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the convention center. There is no admission fee to watch the appraise-a-thon and all ages are welcome. This year, Chinook Winds will donate 50 percent of the proceeds from the Appraise-A-Thon to Relay For Life, an American Cancer Society fundraiser. Having items appraised can help with estate planning or deciding whether to keep or sell an heirloom. For a fee, Loomis will appraise up to three items. To the editor: As we enter into the next part of our school year, we want to take time to give thanks to our community for helping the Taft 7-12 Native Student Association Club. Bob Zany’s come along way “Bay- Bee” since a 15-year-old California kid named Robert Earl Tetreault made his way to the stage of The Gong Show in 1976. In film, he’s appeared in Joe Dirt and The Informant. He stars in the documen- tary Close But No Cigar, chronicling his more than 30 years on the stage, tube and screen. He’s the feature in I Am Comic, a movie about the perks and perils of stand-up. With his trademark cigar, you can hear him now on syndicated radio’s The Bob and Tom Show and the Sideshow Network podcast, The Bob Zany Show with Zan Aufderheide. Zany’s hilarious podcast partner is Zan Aufderheide. Her material is clean and autobiographical with funny tales about all the crazy things that happen in life. She lives by the credo “Unity through laughter.” “When we laugh, we can find our common ground,” says Aufderheide. While she was a traveling comic on dusty Midwest roads, Aufderheide entered and won a radio contest. The prize – be the opening act for Chonda Pierce, “The Queen of Clean” comedy, at the Grand Ole Opry. Her one night stand-up in Nashville turned into an 18-month national gig. Besides the podcast with Zany, Aufderheide currently tours theaters, churches, corporate events, colleges and arenas all over the U.S. Multi-talented Californian Chris Strait hit the stage in 2000 while earning his master’s degree in psychology. After being advised that his style was “too aggressive,” he made comedy his career. He calls himself “a European mutt” who has appeared in comedy clubs in “45 of the 50 states, four of the six inhabited continents and almost 20 countries” in “pretty much all the categories of places one can do stand-up.” Strait was a regular on TRU-TV’s World’s Dumbest series and has done E! and Fuel TV commentary. He’s per- formed stand-up on Playboy and Direct TV and been the voice talent for video games and movie trailers. Since 2000, he’s been a freelance boxing writer, blog- ger and vlogger. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with a no- host bar for this age-21-and-older event. Tickets are $15. Chinook Winds Casino Resort presents Thompson Square, the husband and wife country duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, in concert on Feb. 7-8. With nothing to hide, they showcase their 13-year marriage in every song performed on their tour. Thompson Square’s album, Just Feels Good, is especially revealing of their personal and professional relationship. 2011’s Kiss was the year’s most-played country radio song and was nominated for two Grammy Awards. Thompson Square snatched the CMA, ACM, CMT and ACA 2012 Vocal Duo Awards with its double platinum-selling singles Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not, I Got You and Glass. They are currently the sole established married couple to receive the CMA Vocal Duo of the Year award. Their success soared when they again won the 2013 ACM Vocal Duo of the Year award.
