Chairman’s Report Restoration This is the Tribe’s 36 th year of Res- toration. One of our most favorite guests, who always has a good message, is former Gov. Victor Atiyeh. Most recently at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., his personal col- lections and memorabilia were shared digitally with the world. Gov. Atiyeh was honored by the staff and former state and federal officials. I was unable to attend but I feel the need to let Tribal members know just how special he is. He served in the Oregon House and the Senate. As governor, he served from 1979 to 1987. He served as an interna- tional trade consultant from 1987 to 2013. Gov. Atiyeh fondly remembers Art Bensell in our early Restoration years and working with the Tribe. He worked closely with Tribes in Oregon and hosted Tribes at his home in Salem. him in Washington, D.C. The summit will take place Nov. 13 (see article below). He attends our Tribal Restoration events every year with his wife, Dolores. He has dedicated his life to serving people and we very much appreciate the time he has taken to work with all Tribes and his special visits to ours. We have meetings scheduled in Wash- ington that week with our congressional delegation about our legislation and vari- ous issues. The collection of personal informa- tion and memorabilia will be available to the public online at pacificu.edu/atiyeh. The Budget Committee has met to review budgets, taking into account the sequestration reduction along with a 5 percent cut in actual dollar amounts. The committee will make a recommendation to the Tribal Council at a workshop later this month. white House meeting President Barack Obama once again has invited Tribal leaders to a summit with General Council Meeting Nov.2,2013•1p.m. SiletzTribalCommunityCenter•Siletz,Oregon Call to Order Invocation Flag Salute Roll Call Approval of Agenda Approval of Minutes Programs: Planning Department – Fee to Trust Tribal Council Candidacy Declaration Tribal Members’ Concerns Tribal Vice Chairman Bud Lane will attend as our Tribal representative. The summit will provide leaders from the 566 federally recognized Tribes the opportunity to discuss key Tribal priorities with the president, members of the White House Council on Native American Affairs and other high-level members of the Obama administration. The Tribal Nations Summit con- tinues to serve as one of the leading forums for direct and substantive dia- logue between Tribal leaders and key administration officials.
