Dee-Ne Gifts celebrates 2 nd anniversary of promoting Native, local artists Dee-Ne Gifts, owned by Tribal mem- ber Tina Retasket, is celebrating its sec- ond anniversary of operations in August. The gift shop opened on pow-wow weekend in 2011 and is located at 146 S. Gaither St. in Siletz, Ore. It offers a variety of gift items for sale. In addition to American Indian and community-made gift items, Dee-Ne Gifts offers custom-made regalia for chil- dren and adults, craft supplies for the do- it-yourselfers and specialty gift baskets. Dee-Ne Gifts offers many items for sale under consignment. “We have grown from just a few art- ists to over 50 artists in our gift shop,” said Retasket. “We have items ranging from beadwork, beaded necklaces and much more.” Retasket noted that they have received a few orders from Chinook Winds Casino Resort for numerous table runners. “Initially, their order was for 75 table runners. Each table runner is nine feet long, much longer than the usual length. Additionally, we have created table run- ners with our basket design and they have become very popular,” said Retasket. “Last year, they ordered an additional 10 units and this year they have ordered an additional 20 units. We are working with other departments on some custom items and have developed some proto- type. Those orders are winding through their regular purchasing system, but we hope to be able to provide other items to the casino.” This year, Dee-Ne Gifts added an espresso machine and hopes to provide box lunches and light pastries as well as espresso and Italian sodas beginning in August. This should be a welcome addi- tion to the gift shop and staff and residents of Siletz and their many visitors. It’s become quite a family affair to keep things running. It’s not unusual to see other family members – even grand- kids – helping out with special projects. Gift items from Dee-Ne Gifts have been sent to Germany and Uganda, and they have welcomed visitors from differ- ent parts of the world, including Taiwan. “We’ve gone international!” said Retasket. To celebrate, Dee-Ne Gifts has put together a gift basket and each person who makes a purchase during August will receive a drawing ticket, one ticket per Butler Family Reunion Aug.30,2013•5-9p.m.•SiletzTribalCommunityCenter Potluck Bring your hand drums and stickgame sticks. Combine the apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon of the salt in a large bowl and toss to coat. Place apple mixture in the prepared dish and set aside. Using the same bowl, mix together the brown sugar, oats, flour and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt until evenly combined. With your fingertips, blend in the butter pieces until small clumps form and the butter is well-incorporated, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples and bake until the streusel is crispy and the apples are tender, about 50-60 minutes. Let cool on a rack at least 30 minutes before serving.
