Turner concert part of casino’s 18 th anniversary weekend in June County music star Josh Turner will perform live in concert June 21-22. An anni- versary fireworks show will follow the June 22 performance at approximately 10 p.m. outside the casino. As a family man, philanthropist, devoted Christian and passionate sports fan, you might say Turner’s commitments run as deep as his voice. Of course, he’s also a double- platinum-selling singer, songwriter and disciple of traditional country music, a mentor to up-and-coming artists – and one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry. All of those layers influence Turner’s new album, Punching Bag. His fifth for MCA Nashville, the album is a knockout collection of bluegrass-influenced barnburn- ers, lonesome laments and the slow and steady love ballads on which his trademark baritone excels. The follow-up to 2010’s Haywire, which yielded the No. 1 hits Why Don’t We Just Dance and All Over Me, Punching Bag represents Turner in fighting shape. Throughout all 11 songs, he bobs and weaves like a champ, exhibiting new range in both his voice and his songwriting. Turner penned eight of the record’s 11 tracks, including the rollicking title song that set the tone for the entire project. “When the idea for Punching Bag came along, it really hit me,” Turner said, pun intended. “It became the central idea for this record.” Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets range from $45 to $60.
