McKinney named TPeP coordinator; plans collaboration with other groups By Patti McKinney, TPEP Coordinator My name is Patti McKinney. I am the Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP) coordinator for the Siletz Tribe. It is an honor to be a part of the Tribe and the Siletz Community Health Clinic. My office is located in the Behavioral Health Department. My role as a Tobacco Prevention and Education coordinator includes: ¾ Collaborating with diverse partners, such as Tribal, community and state agencies ¾ Promoting healthy environments and communities, such as housing, work sites and events, so everyone who accesses the buildings and events can do so without exposure to second- hand smoke. TPEP support includes tobacco prevention signs, informa- tion and policies that protect Siletz Tribal properties and buildings. ¾ Reducing the influence of tobacco product marketing by providing evidence-based information to key stake holders ¾ Providing the quit line number (800-QUITNOW or 800-784-8669) to clinic staff and encouraging peo- ple to access their medical provider for cessation guidance ¾ Providing commercial tobacco-free policy support for the Siletz Tribe by providing updated information about the risks of secondhand smoke and the populations that are vulnerable, including infants, children, pregnant women, Elders and people with diabetes, COPD (cardio pulmonary obstructive disease) and asthma ¾ Providing TPEP quarterly meet- ings with an Advisory Coalition. I invite collaborative partners within our Siletz Tribal programs, Lincoln County agency partners and the community to provide their valu- able expertise and information. One way to do that would be to join the TPEP Advisory Coalition.
