A poem for Mary Jane By Gloria Ingle I thought about it long and hard And wondered what to say About a little blonde-haired gal That one day came our way. You see that lady standing there My dad once said to me I do I said and he replied, “She meant a lot to me.” First the days and then the years Went whizzing by and time went marching on Friends and family aged and passed For each she wrote a song. Her colors bright and blazing A banner bravely held So brave a spirit to toss such life Against a careless world. Through each and every heartache she continued on Until one day she stood alone All friends gone but her Then with gentle eyes and sweetest smile she too passed on. But no one wrote a song for her And so I hummed a tune Into the wind I drummed a song And I am sure she heard.
