Journalists visit Chinook Winds on central coast tour
For the past several years, Chinook
Winds Casino Resort has been one of the
first stops on the Central Oregon Coast
Association’s FAM tour, a tour of the
Central Oregon Coast for journalists. This
is an effort to expose journalists to events,
attractions, areas and anything that may be
of interest as a topic for an article.
On May 20, Chinook Winds was
proud to host Allen Cox, editor of North
west Travel Magazine; Adam Sawyer,
tour guide for Portland Walking Tours,
author of the Portland Hiking Examiner
for Examiner.com and columnist for
Portland Family Outdoors; and Roy Ste
venson, a full-time freelance travel writer
with more than 600 articles published dur
ing the last five years in 150 magazines,
newspapers, websites and in-flights in
the United States, England, Scotland,

Spring Cleaning at Chinook Winds
The staff at Chinook Winds took advantage of every short sunny break in the
weather in May and June to clean up, spruce up, paint and beautify the property. The
hotel building is sporting a new roof, touch-up painting (right) happened at every
opportunity and colorful plants across the property came into full bloom. The swim
ming pool and hot tub (above) got a new look during the inclement weather. Not a
minute was wasted in making the property ready for summer guests.

July 2012
Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand
and South Africa.
Dinner began with a sampling of the
hors d'oeuvres served at the Rogue River
Steakhouse followed by dinner selections
from the menu. The writers were accom
panied by Tracie Driver of Northwest
Eco-Excursions and Lucy Gibson, public
relations director for the Oregon Coast
Visitor Association and Central Oregon
Coast Association.
All things came to a full stop before
munching could begin to take photos of
the delicious entrees that looked as good
as they tasted. A long, enjoyable conver
sation took place about the casino, all its
amenities and, of course, the restaurants.
The writers expressed a strong inter
est in the history of Chinook Winds
Casino and the Siletz Tribe, so much so
that a copy of The People Are Dancing
Again by Charles Wilkinson was mailed
to each of the journalists after their depar
ture and each was presented with a full
press kit featuring Chinook Winds and
the Siletz Tribe.
Each year we are rewarded with
articles generated from this tour and we
look forward to the interesting reading
to come.
