Bring your family to Siletz pow-wow Community invited to family-friendly event on Government Hill By Diane Rodriquez The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians invites the community to join it on Aug. 12-14 for the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow in Siletz, Ore., a free family friendly event that’s a tradition for the Siletz people and other American Indians. All events, except the parade, take place at the Pauline Ricks Memorial Pow-Wow Grounds on Government Hill in Siletz. “We encourage everyone with inter est in American Indian culture to attend our annual pow-wow, visit our beautiful reservation and see how we are celebrat ing our culture in this modem era,” said Nick Sixkiller, interim pow-wow coor dinator and education specialist for the Siletz Tribe. “The coming together of our many cultures is awesome and worth witnessing.” The celebration will start with the crowning of the 2011 -2012 Siletz Royalty on Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. All dance styles will enter the arena at 7 p.m. during the first Grand Entry. Dances in which the public can participate that are non-competitive will follow the Grand Entry. A parade winds through downtown Siletz at 10 a.m. on Aug. 13. This home town event includes Tribal royalty, drum mers, dancers, equestrian units, vintage cars and floats. Pre-registration is available by access ing a registration form on the Tribe’s web site - ctsi.nsn.us; picking one up at the Siletz Tribal administration building, 201 SE Swan Ave. in Siletz; or by contacting See Pow-Wow on page 8.
