Merchant Appreciation Social helps local businesses connect with others On March 2, Chinook Winds held a Merchant Appreciation Social. This very successful event started with a great idea by team member Steve Hartsock, who suggested that Chinook Winds hold a social gathering for local businesses to thank them for their support. Teresa Simmons ran with the idea with encouragement from Sar Richards and the end result was a successful evening of networking and promoting business. This time of year is normally a little lean for all of our coastal communities that rely on tourism and summer vaca tioners as their main source of income. That coupled with the overall economic downturn has left many local businesses struggling to stay in business, cutting back on staff and working so short-handed there virtually is no time to explore joint marketing options and ways to work more effectively with other local merchants. Interest has been growing among these businesses in more effective ways to reach tourism markets and bring more people to the area as well as ways to pro mote themselves as a group or through events. Hopefully, this event enabled members of the local business commu nity the opportunity to move closer to that goal. More than 100 people attended, including Lincoln City Mayor Dick Anderson, members of the Lincoln City Council and Lincoln City staff, repre sentatives from Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and the hospital foundation, motel owners/operators and virtually every kind of business you can imagine.
