AIGC has fellowships, scholarships, loans and academic team for students The American Indian Graduate Cen ter, Inc. has fellowships, scholarships and Ioans for service available to American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) under graduate and graduate students. Each year, the AIGC fellowship program provides $1,200,000 in fellow ships to more than 350 AI/AN graduate or professional degree-seeking students who meet all eligibility criteria. The U.S. Bureau of Indian Education federally funds the fellowship program. The fellowship amount is typically between $ 1,000 and $5,000 per academic year (not including summer) and varies from year to year, depending on the avail ability of funds and unmet financial need. AIGC administers the following private fellowships to graduate students: • • • Elizabeth Furbur Fellowship: Gradu ate fellowship for women studying the creative fine arts, visual works, crafts, music, performing, dance, literacy, creative writing and poetry Dr. George Blue Spruce Fellowship: Dr. Blue Spruce created the fellowship as a step toward increasing the very low number of American Indian dentists. Gerald Peet Fellowship: Priority to medical students or those in health- related fields Grace Wall Barreda Memorial Fel lowship: Graduate fellowship for • • • students seeking advanced degrees in environmental studies or public health Jeanette Elmer Scholarship-Graduate Fellowship: This fund is designated to provide scholarships to students who have completed their bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program at an accredited institution and who are members of Wisconsin, New Mexico or Arizona Tribes. Katrin Lamon Fund: For American Indian graduate students majoring in literature, journalism and communi cations or a related field Ruth Muskrat Bronson Scholarship Fund: Priority to nursing or health- related fields if the nursing pool is nonexistent; one or two graduate students per year BIE-Loan for Service (Graduate) AIGC administers a grant from the Bureau of Indian Education to provide financial assistance in the form of loans to eligible AI/AN students seeking graduate and professional degrees. The goal is to promote opportuni ties for careers with Tribal governments, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education and Bureau of Indian Affairs-funded organizations on and off reservations; or organizations and other agencies with significant American Indian populations. Loans are paid back at the rate of one year (12 months) of service for one year of funding. proof of enrollment in a United States federally recognized AI/AN Tribe. Loan for Service Program Wells Fargo American Indian Scholarship - graduate and undergraduate Wells Fargo’s goal is to build per sonal and lasting relationships with the students who will become future leaders in economic development in Indian com munities and Wells Fargo leaders in the banking and financial service industry. Accenture American Indian Scholarship - graduate and undergraduate This fund seeks high-achieving student leaders for this non-need-based scholarship for AI/AN students seeking degrees and careers in various engineer ing, computer science, operations man agement, finance, marketing and other business-oriented fields. Scholarship recipients are eligible for summer internships with Accenture, as first-year graduate students or junior-year undergraduate students. Applicants will be evaluated on aca demic excellence, demonstrated leader ship, commitment to preserving American Indian culture and communities, and AIGC has interest-free educational loans for graduate students for the aca demic year 2011-2012. The Loan for Service Program is a Bureau of Indian Education-funded financial aid oppor tunity administered by AIGC for AI/ AN graduate and professional degree students. Part or all of the loan repayment may be cancelled if the recipient accepts employment with the BI A/BIE or a Tribe. All Native American High School Academic Team The AIGC All Native American High School Academic Team (ANAHSAT) honors 10 AI/AN high school seniors each year. Students who have outstand ing academic achievements; leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activi ties; and motivation to serve and succeed should apply. Members of the ANAHSAT will receive a $250 honorarium and be fea tured in American Indian Graduate maga zine and Indian Country Today. For more information on any of the above, visit aigc.com. UO offers business scholarship through insurance agents, brokers group The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Oregon, a statewide non profit association, offers the W.A. “Pete” Brooks Scholarship award. The award was established to honor the longtime insurance industry professional who later left a considerable bequest to the fund in his will. Scholarship monies awarded will be made available in equal installments for the fall, winter and spring terms of the academic year 2011/2012. The recipi ent must be a student in the College of Business or an undergrad pursuing a pre-business major at the University of Oregon for the respective terms to be eligible for the applicable installment. ' This scholarship must be used during the year for which it is awarded. Recipi ents can re-apply the following year for further scholarship assistance. Experience in or knowledge of the insurance industry is not required. The maximum award per recipient is $2,500 and will be determined following the receipt of all applications Applications must be postmarked by April 15. Applicants will be notified by the end of June with the scholarship results.
