Siletz Tribal members: I would like to extend my gratitude to the people who voted for me this year, especially since some of you didn’t know me. This shows that you voted in hope for change. I am still interested in hear ing your concerns and answering any questions. Please feel free to contact me at logan.melinda@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to meeting and speaking with you. I hope this year brings you and your family great blessings of health, wealth and happiness. Sincerely, Melinda L. Logan To the editor: Thank you to all of the Tribal mem bers who voted for me. I will be back next year. For all of you who don’t know me, I am on Facebook. Look me up and let’s talk and get to know each other. I look forward to one day serving you on Tribal Council. May the Creator of all good things bless you all. Sincerely, Frank Aspria-DePoe To the editor: Siletz Valley Friends of the Library board members want to thank the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund for approving our recent grant request. The $795 grant covers the cost of SVFOL’s annual liability insurance premium. This insurance allows our non-profit group to continue volunteer activities such as fundraising, cultural activities, landscape improvement and a variety of other community efforts. We know that there are many worthy projects requesting financial assistance so we are especially grateful to the Siletz Tribe’s charitable fund for again supporting the work of SVFOL in our goals to maintain and improve the Siletz Public Library. Sincerely, Sunshine Keck, Secretary On behalf of the board of the Siletz Valley Friends of the Library To the editor: I would like to thank Charles Wilkin son and everyone involved with our book The People Are Dancing Again. I enjoyed reading it and had a hard time putting it down after I started. It is truly great and will be a treasure for our future youth. Sincerely, Marci Simmons Daughter of Harding W. Simmons and Alice M. (Logan) Simmons To the editor: A personal thank you to the Siletz Tribe: I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for helping me to achieve my dream of getting profes sionally certified as a Building Perfor mance Institute (BPI) building analyst. The 477 Self-Sufficiency Program is a lifesaver if you are seeking help in educational or vocational training to improve your lifestyle. Jamie Mason, Tribal services specialist, made all efforts to ensure my success by expressing genuine concern for me and by making the paperwork go smoothly. I would encourage and challenge all of you who have dreams of aspiring to be whatever it is you desire to pick up an application and fill it out. Young or old, it does not matter. I am 55 years old and took the chance of failing, only to succeed with the Tribe’s help. They will not quit on you nor stand by and watch you struggle to improve the way things are going in your life. I’m glad I walked into the office that day and met Jamie Mason. Again, all I can say is that I deeply appreciate all efforts taken on my behalf. To the editor: The South Umpqua Native American Cultural Education Committee (SUNA- CEC) has sponsored the South Umpqua Pow-Wow for the last 31 years. The pow wow is free and open to all Native Ameri can Nations as well as the general public. In addition to the pow-wow, the group gave the Indian Education classes at the South Umpqua High School in Tri City. Last year the school made us aware that they could no longer allow use of their facility for the pow-wow and classes. SUNACEC, not put off by this, has arranged to hold this year’s South Umpqua Pow-Wow at the National Guard Armory in Roseburg. We are hoping to raise enough funds at the pow-wow for the next year’s pow-wow, Indian Education classes and to petition for non-profit exempt status with the state and federal government. This will allow us access to grant and founda tion monies which will greatly expand our educational possibilities. You can help us with these goals. Any assistance you can give us, monetary or donations that can be raffled, would be appreciated. All businesses and individuals assisting us will be acknowledged on our “Giving Board” at the pow-wow. Checks should be made out to Indian Education Parent Committee, c/o Lori Whitaker, P.O. Box 98, Myrtle Creek, OR 97457. We always need volunteers for the pow-wow and to assist with classes as well if you have anyone who is interested in Native American culture. If you have any questions, please call me at 541-784- 0041 or 541-863-0967.
