Those selected receive financial sup port for educational and extracurricular activities, as well as one-on-one help with applying to high schools, colleges, sum mer programs and more. Youth Silent Film Festival The Youth Silent Film Festival (YSFF) will be a sanctioned event of the 2011 Portland Rose Festival on May 24-26 at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Ore. The competition is open to filmmakers 20 years old and younger. 16 • Siletz News • Young filmmakers can create a modem version of a silent film, see it on the big screen with live accompaniment and win cash prizes. Submissions must be three minutes in length, based upon one of five pre-recorded musical themes, family-friendly/appropriate for viewers of all ages and use only original footage with no copyrighted material. There is no entry fee. The deadline for submission of final films is April 15.
