CHINOOK WINDS CASINO RESORT Billy Ray Cyrus Joins Anniversary Weekend Celebration 2008 CMT Awards host and multi-platinum recording artist Billy Ray Cyrus will perform live with his hits Achy, Breaky Heart, Ready, Set, Don 't Go, and Could've Been Me at Chinook Winds on June 19-20. Enamored of baseball, Cyrus intended to become another Johnny Bench as he grew up in Flatwoods, Ky. While attending Georgetown College on a baseball scholarship, he bought a guitar and decided im mediately that athletics wasn’t the proper direction for his life. Instead, he formed a band called Sly Dog with his brother and gave him self a 10-month deadline for finding a place to play. One week prior to that cutoff date, the group went to work as the house band for a club in Ironton, Ohio, where they remained for two years. When a 1984 fire destroyed the bar - and Cyrus' equipment - he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career. Eventually, he returned to Kentucky and commuted regularly to Nashville in search of a record deal. Grand Ole Opry star Del Reeves got Mercury Records to take a look and division head Harold Shedd signed him in the summer of 1990. When his first album came out in mid-1992, Cyrus - with his good looks, sculpted body and the infectious Achy, Breaky Heart-became an instant ground breaking sensation. Energetic Entertainers Highlight Comedy Show Chas Elstner headlines Comedy on the Coast at Chinook Winds on June 26-27, sharing the stage with Steve Smith and Sam Demaris. Elstner has been a stand-up comedian for more than 24 years and has written, per formed and produced two comedy albums. He has been the opening act for Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Ma chine, The Pointer Sisters, Sha Na Na and various others throughout his career. With all of his live performance talents, he has developed a humor that captivates audiences of all ages. He is a master of mouth sound effects and has an array of character voices that add to his energetic approach to comedy and leaves you with a lasting and enter taining impression. Award-winning stand-up comedian Smith has made more than 50 television appearances both as a comedian and an actor. They include shows on HBO, MTV, Showtime and Comedy Central. Not only does he kill on the comedy stage, he was killed in two movies as well, Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and Slaugh terhouse Rock. The audience never knows what to expect when watching the very funny Demaris. His performances are fast-paced and highly energetic and will often leave audiences wondering, “Did he just say what I think he said?” He has performed across the country, including opening the Maxim Magazine Real Men of Comedy show in Houston, Texas, as well as a two-week tour of Iraq to perform for U.S. Army troops.
