TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS 3rd Annual S.T.Y.L.E. (SiletzTribal Youth Living Empowered) Coed Native Basketball Tournament April 24-27, 2008 The S.T.Y.L.E. Coed Native Bas ketball Tournament will be held April 24-27, 2008. Youth teams up to eight players, ineluding two non-Native alternates if needed, have been invited from around the Pacific Northwest and the I I-county service area. Recruitment began in January 2008 with invitations sent to all nine tribes of Oregon and various tribes in Southern Washington. In 2006, the S.T.Y.L.E. Volunteer Committee took up the challenge to re establish a basketball tournament in Siletz. I'he committee and youth vol unteers did fund-raisers, submitted funding requests and obtained dona tions throughout the year to raise funds for a basketball tournament in April 2007 with an attendance of more than 350 people. Annual Culture Camp Set for July FOSTER PARENTING INFO SESSIONS Foster Parenting is a great way to help our Tribal Chil dren in a time of need. Have you ever wondered what Foster Parenting is all about? This is the perfect opportunity to find out about fostering in an informal question-and-answer session. Drop in at your convenience at one of the locations below to get more information. Light refreshments will be provided. 4 pm -6 pm Wed, April 2nd Culture Camp will take place on July 15-17 at the Tribal Community Center on Government Hill. The committee is having a logo art contest and the deadline to submit your entry is May 12, 2008. Please send all entries to the C PSI/Cultural Programs, P.O. Box 549, Siletz, OR 97380-0549. Culture Camp is for tribal members and tribal families only. If children are under age 10. they must be chaperoned by an adult. Suggested activi ties are basketweaving, hand-drum making demonstration, drumstick mak ing, bead working, shell necklace making, traditional foods preparation, flint-knapping, storytelling, fish T-shirt painting, moccasin making and rec reational activities. Overnight camping is available for families who live outside of the Siletz area. Overnight participants should bring tents, sleeping bags, toiletries, etc. Campers can arrive on July 14, but meals are not provided on this day.
