CHINOOK WINDS CASINO RESORT Wynonna Returns to the Beach The queen of country music will per form live on Aug. 4-5 at Chinook Winds. Wynonna is an award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist who has given her heart and soul to find suc cess. She’s had 20 No. I singles, has been honored by the Country Music Asso ciation, the Academy of Country Music, and the Grammy Awards as well as be coming the first female country artist to score three multiple-week No. 1 songs from the same album. Together with her mother, Naomi, Wynonna first gained fame in 1984 as part of one of the most successful duos of all time, The Judds, and has been critically lauded as one of the finest vocalists of our time. The duo became one of the most celebrated success sto ries in country music history. In just six short years, they sold more than 20 million records worldwide and won more than 60 industry awards, including five Grammys, nine CMA awards, and eight Billboard Music Awards. In 1991, Naomi Judd retired from the singing duo because she had contracted chronic hepatitis during her earlier nursing career. Following Naomi's retirement, Wynonna began the second amazing success story of her life and signed her first solo record deal in 1992. With vast critical acclaim, Wynonna sold more than 5 million units and became the highest-selling debut album by a female artist at the time. A musical force like none before her, Wynonna followed her wildly suc cessful debut with the multi-platinum disc, Tel! Me Why, as well as with the platinum-certified Revelation. Her greatest hits compilation, Col lection, was released in 1997, the year that also found her gold record, The Other Side, flying from the shelves. Wynonna burst into 2000 with a torrent of unleashed creativity that is expressed on New Day Dawning, her fifth solo outing that she also produced. She released her sixth solo studio album, What The World Needs Now Is Love, on Curb Records in 2003. Wynonna currently is the U.S. Ambassador for YouthAIDS and in 2005 received the USO Merit Award for outstanding contributions to the U.S. Armed Forces. In 2004, she re ceived the Connie B. Gay Award, one of the most prestigious awards pre sented by the CMA. Wynonna was nominated for the 2003 ACM’s Humanitarian of the Year Award and in the last two years alone has single-handedly raised more than $2 million for charity. She is active with the American Red Cross, having organized three blood drives in the last three years; Musi- Cares, at whose Person of the Year ga las she performed in 2004 in honor of Sting and in 2003 in honor of Bono and has served on the board of gover nors; The Oasis Center in Nashville where she serves as mentor and friend to children in need and headlines the annual tastemaker event, Divas Nashvegas; and St. Jude Children's Hospital, where she served as keynote speaker for the Country Cares Semi nar in 2003. Styx Rock Music Legends Styx Live at Chinook Winds The legendary rock band Styx will hit the stage Aug. 25-26 to bring its time-enduring hits to Chinook Winds. Styx is one of the great rock bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s with its stadium rock, power ballads, and concept al bums. August 2006 Hear the Roar of Laughter at Comedy on the Coast Tickets are now on sale tor the Au gust edition of Comedy on the Coast at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. Barry Diamond and Gerry Bednob will keep you laughing Aug. 4-5. Barry Diamond is a multi-talented actor, singer, and stand-up comedian with credits in the last few years that include Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO, Friends, Seinfeld, Politically Incorrect, The Naked Truth, and Robert Townsend's Partners in Crime series on HBO and Fox Television. Diamond is an absolute hit on stage; he’s a cut above the rest, with a high- caliber repertoire that sees him undergo numerous personality changes with great effect. He also has a powerful singing voice and opens and closes his perfor mance with two superb numbers. Gerry Bednob not only has been a stand up comedian for years, but also has been seen in such films as Death Becomes Her and Encino Man. His guest-star appearances on TV shows include Seinfeld, Wonder Years, and Mad About You. Joan Rivers said she thought she had heard it all until she heard the ef fervescent Bednob. Show time is 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12. This is a 21 and over show. Motorcycle Enthusiasts Return to Run for the Wind VII Run for the Wind, Chinook Winds Casino Resort’s motorcycle rally, is back for its seventh year on Aug. 25-27. Along with shopping, a beer gar den, entertainment, and hundreds of bikes, Team Extreme Trials will per form free shows all three days. This year's Run for the Wind will benelit the Oregon Coast Veterans Association. Performing in the showroom on August 25-26 will be the hit band Styx. Don't miss classic songs like Too Much Time on My Hands, Renegade, Mr. Roboto, and Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), plus much more. As a celebration of Run for the Wind’s seventh year, a Biker's Ball will be held Aug. 26. There's a $5 cover charge. The doors open at 9 p.m. with the band taking the stage at 10 p.m. At noon on Aug. 27, the public is invited to the rededication of the Gulf War Memorial located just outside of the casino. According to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the memorial is the only one in the nation dedicated to the Gulf War that has been engraved with the names of all those who passed in each of the service branches.
