When you teach, I will learn. With respect I will give to you my heart, along with its youthful beat of exuberance. I will hear the gentle songs of an ageless time of wisdom. Together we will retrace your pathway upon mountains, through meadows. I will follow the footprints you have left for me in the sand. Along the journey I will travel the highs and lows. Become aware of what is good and what is not. As the wind wipes away yesterday. 1 pre pare myself for the coming fresh breath of air. Your wise spirit of kindness, honor, and humbleness will be my reflection. Your sparkle of starlight will guide me through periods of darkness. The warmth of your inner glow will be my candle of enlightenment. I will grow strong in who I am. I will take that strength and share it. Through you I rekindle the past. Through me, your dreams for tomorrow. Grandmother, the world and all its en chantments wait. When the time comes and you step away, I will know and accept it is a chosen time. Grandmother, know you are truly loved. I will listen for your whisper and feel it in my heart. January 2006 • Siletz News • 9
