LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
On behalf of the Siletz Valley
Friends of the Library, we would like
to thank the committee of the Siletz
Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund for
their generous grant of $750 for our
group liability insurance.
During the past year, we sponsored
seven “events” to promote the Siletz
Library and raise money for a new
building. A tremendous amount of time
and energy went into planning and ex
ecuting those events. It was a relief to
know that we had liability insurance,
in case anything unfortunate happened.
With your generous support, we can
renew that insurance coverage and con
tinue to raise money for the new library.
We are an all-volunteer group, and
yearly dues are only $5. Many of us
donate paper, computer ink, postage
costs, and other supplies to keep costs
down. When we apply for grants, foun
dations want to know what ongoing
financial support exists for our group.
We are very proud to tell them that the
Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution
Fund has been very supportive, not only
with money for insurance, but in pur
chasing things for the current library.
Over the years, the fund has given
us the money to remodel some cup
boards in the library to make more
shelves for children’s books, for sub
scriptions to large-print book plans, and
for story time aids, including a bright
new rug, puppets and theater, and a por
table CD player. The shiny new book
drop in front of the current library was

Yesterday there was no wind. Today
the wind is behind us; now we need to

To the editor:
Hello everyone,
My name is Jessie Davis. I am one
of the incumbents who will be seeking
your vote in the upcoming tribal elec
tion. I believe that to be an effective
Tribal Council person, it takes a lot
of personal time and commitment.
However, I do have the support of my
husband and family to continue my pur
suit for re-election.
I believe I have the time, energy,
and commitment to fulfill the role of a
council member. I also bring forth hon
esty, integrity, and experience. I believe
I have established a reputation of mak
ing positive things happen for the tribe!
I do not just attend meetings. I am
aggressive and I am always working for
the outcome to be in the best interest of
the tribe. I also believe I have earned the
respect of many in various levels: tribal
members, other tribal leaders on a local
and national level, and state agencies.
There are constant challenges to the
tribe’s sovereignty. There continues to
be many critical tribal issues facing our
council. I have the experience, knowl
edge, and ability to help us move through
these troubled times.
If elected, I will continue to work
toward: 1) Improved health care cover
age for all tribal members; 2) Educa
tion - Would like to see any person who
is qualified to go to college or AVT get
the help they need; 3) Communication-
I have been and will continue to be
available to anyone who wants to con
tact me with an issue. I have always
done my best to help resolve issues and
