We would welcome anyone who would like to do a healthy and nutritious cooking demonstration. Please call in advance to schedule a time and to let us know what you need. And remember - we will need to have the recipe written up with the nutrition facts included. I September 2004 Community Meetings in All Area Offices 1994 Comprehensive Plan Update The Siletz Planning Department invites you to community meetings to record your most up-to-date vision for the tribe. Please plan to attend your area meeting and bring your ideas, suggestions, and plans with you. This is your opportunity to help set goals and priorities for the next 10 years. In addition to discussing thoughts for future projects, we will review the goals, objectives, and priorities you established in the 1994 Comprehensive Plan, most of which have been success fully accomplished. We look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings listed below. If you can’t attend a meeting, please e-mail your comments to Kerry Smith at kerrys@ctsi.nsn.us. Please don’t miss this opportunity to share, with your staff and council, your thoughts about what our focus should be as we move forward. Portland Area Office Sept. 21 - 6:30 p.m. Salem Area Office Sept. 22 - 6:30 p.m. Eugene Area Office Sept. 23 - 6:30 p.m. Siletz Tribal Community Center Sept. 24 - 6:30 p.m. Housing Vouchers Program Update The Siletz Tribal Housing Depart ment’s Housing Vouchers Program has mailed out updates for all active applicants. Anyone who has applied for or updated their file for this program since Jan. 1, 2004 does not need to update their file until next year. The update applications were due by Aug. 31, 2004. If the update appli cation was not received by Aug. 31, 2004, the applicant’s file has been placed in inactive status. If you applied for the Housing Vouchers Program or updated your file before Jan. 1, 2004, and you did not receive an update, give us a call at 1 -800-922-1399, ext. 1314, or 541-444-8314. Remember, it’s your responsibility to inform us when you have a change in your mailing address. If your file becomes inactive because of an address change that you did not report, your file will not be reinstated at the application date before this update. You may re apply for the Housing Vouchers Program and you will be placed on the waiting list based on the date you re-applied. At this time, the approximate wait for the Housing Choice Vouchers is four years. Elders Woodcut Coming Up Thanks to wood donated by Kauff man Construction during site work at the Logan Road RV Park, the Tribal Natural Resources Committee and Natural Resources Department will sponsor an elders’ woodcut on Sept 25. The woodcut will be held at the old log yard at the tribe’s Toledo Mill prop erty. We need lots of volunteers to help cut, split, load, and deliver firewood for tribal elders. Bring your chainsaws, splitting mauls, axes, pickup trucks, and lots of energy. Even if you don’t have any of those, we can use the moral support! We’ll provide lunch, drinks, and snacks. We will meet at the Siletz Tribal administration building at 7 a.m. and caravan to the mill. Anyone wishing to come later can find directions to the mill posted on the front door of the building. Elders wishing to receive firewood from this event should contact Angela Ramirez at 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1225. or 541-444-8225 . People willing to haul firewood to elders outside of the Siletz area also should contact Angela and she will pair you up with an elder in need. We especially need folks who can haul wood to Eugene, Salem, and Portland.
