Although we’ll soon be mourning the absence of sunshine in our days, there has been much for which to be thankful. The TLC/A&D grounds have definitely benefited from the services of the Youth JOBS program. Not many dandelion heads will make tiny seed parachutes. All new shrubs have been mulched with several inches of bark dust and amply watered to ensure survival, thanks to Mark Tom, Brittney Payne, Shantel Hostler, Karli Jay, Joe Luledjian, Sammy Hall, and Robbie Jay. A new flowerbed sports Sweet Williams to bloom next summer, plus Teddy Bear sunflowers and bell pepper plants. Sweet peas and statice have been planted to see if they can beat Mother Nature to the frost line. Wisely, the tomatoes have been planted in large pots to be benched in the greenhouse. Perhaps there will be crops into the fall season. Many thanks to Chinook Winds, Margo Hudson, and Marci Taylor for the (literally) busload of toiletries delivered on July 22. Appreciation to ongoing TLC supporter Sunshine Keck for toiletries, to “anonymous” for food items and tomato plants, to Ahna and Tom Wagnon for garden produce, to Paulina Burnette for clothing, to Paulina Thome for three bags of groceries, and to Amy Gibson for hamburger. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Vital to our program success is the dedication of volunteers who sleep over 4 . □. I. ' I Siletz News □ night at the TLC. Gratitude goes out to Jackie Ashley, Alice McCain, Joan Hartung, Brycann Mickey, Lisa Brown, and Denise Riding-In for their service. Foster homes as well as relative foster homes are necessary to provide children in need with the parental care and nurturing that promotes the growth and development that our tribal children deserve. If you are thinking of becoming a foster parent, relative placement, or just have questions, please contact Bekki Johns at 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1338, or 541-444-8338. Call Bekki for an application or if you would like to learn more about available programs that provide specialized foster parent training.
