NOTICES Ashland Producer Launches The Spiritual Cinema Circle^ ASHLAND. Ore. - A Southern Oregon film producer has created a new film distribution business that will offer up fare viewers may not be able to find elsewhere. Stephen Simon, a producer from Ashland, is making “soul satisfying, heart-warming movies that engage our collective human spirit” available through a sub scription service. Simon, co-founder and president of Moving Messages: The Institute for Spiritual Entertainment, Inc., producer and director of Indigo, producer of Somewhere In Time and the Academy Awardw-winning What Dreams May Come, recently announced the launch of The Spiritual Cinema Circle (SCC), a membership-based monthly DVD home delivery service of compassionate, inspiring, soul satisfying movies. Co-founders include Gay and Katie Hen dricks, best-selling rela tionship experts, and a host of supporters include singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins, Cheryl Richardson, and Neale Donald Walsch. “Some of the best movies made every year go virtually unseen,” says Simon. “The Spiritual Cinema Circle can open your door to movies with heart and soul that inspire, heal, and transform our lives, without ever leaving your home.” Monthly movie selections will be similar to this year’s Indie heart-warmer Whale Rider, as well as movies like Field Of Dreams, Ghost, or Truly, Madly, Deeply. With his connec tions in the film industry and keynote talks at film festivals and venues around the world, Simon began to realize he was in a privileged minority that got to see wonderful movies every year that hardly anybody else got to enjoy. “The major distributors won’t touch the most heart-filled, soul-satisfying movies because they don’t think there’s enough money in it for them, and even the independent distributors often overlook quality films,” says Simon. Oregon Employment Department Opens First Unemployment Insurance Center The Employment Department has officially opened the first unemploy ment insurance call center in Oregon. The center, located in Eugene, handles all unemployment insurance claims for southwestern Oregon. The opening of the center is part of an overall new direction in delivery of service for the Employment Depart ment. It marks a dramatic change in how unemployment insurance claims have been handled since the first benefit check was issued in 1938. Instead of coming into a local Employment Department field office to file for unemployment, an individual now will simply pick up a telephone and dial a local number. Unemployment call centers will be established in the Portland area (January 2005) and Bend (July 2005). Individuals also may file for unem ployment by computer through the department’s Web site, www. WorkingInOregon.org. Filing initial unemployment insurance claims by Internet has been available since early spring. Currently, about 25 percent of all unemployment claims are filed online. In an effort to improve voter education, voter turnout and the dis semination of elections information - particularly details about when, where and how to vote and how to obtain a replacement ballot - Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has developed a toll-free voter information line and Web site.
