Fisher Accepted into Arts Program

Congratulations to Nichole Fisher
of Honolulu, HI. Nichole was accepted
into the Gifted and Talented Art
Program at her school in Hawaii. She
was one of three students selected.
Her nomination was based on her
interest and performance in the visual arts.
She will receive advanced training in
drawing, painting, and ceramics to maxi­
mize her potential. Great job, Nichole!

Sharon Roeser. Gail Johnson works in
both the store and gas station through
the Siletz Tribe’s Work Experience
(WEX) Program. Phil Rilatos and Roger
Rilatos rounds out the gas station crew.
The Siletz Tribal Business Corpo­
ration opened the gas station in late
September and the mini-mart opened
about three weeks later. Gas prices here
have remained competitive with those
in Newport and local residents are
happy that they can fill up in Siletz,
avoiding a trip to Logsden or Toledo to
what used to be the nearest gas station.
The mini-mart is open Sunday
through Thursay from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.,
Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to
11 p.m., and the gas station is open from
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Most of the wrestlers who came
from Siletz were first-time wrestlers.
They showed tremendous improvement
in the sport by showing their dedication
to making practices in Siletz and Toledo.
All of them had the opportunity to
wrestle in tournaments for the first time.
They learned and improved in every
match, and all brought home medals.
Two wrestlers place at the state
tournament - Ronald Butler took third
and Daniel Regan took second.
Additionally, two wrestlers - Robert
Moore and Damian Williams - placed
first in our last tournament of the year,
winning their brackets.
We’re proud of all of our kids for
their effort and the hard work they put
in this year. They learned a lot and we
as coaches learned a lot and look forward
to working with the kids in the future.
We would like to thank many
people for a successful year: Phil Moran
for helping us get the club started; Don
Liming, Toledo High School head
coach, for letting us bring mats from
Toledo to Siletz; Mona Fisher and the
Siletz Tribe for use of the van for prac­
tice and tournaments; Van Peters and
Siletz Valley School for use of the gym.
Chinooks Winds for donations to
help buy shoes for the kids; our coach
parents - Violet Lafferty-Moore, Tyson
Haynes, Anna John, and Shane Howard
- for helping out at practices and
tournaments; Stan Werth for use of his
trailer to move the mats back and forth;
Christine Goodell for help with driving
the van to practices; those who helped
us move the mats; the kids’ families for
their support; and the coaches’ families
for their help and support.
