No. 3 _ March 2004 _____________ erated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon Tribe Elects Tribal Council Members Lillie Butler, Delores Pigsley, and Bud Lane pose for photos after the swearing- in ceremony on Feb. 9. A photo of the 2004 officers appears on page 17. Lillie E. (Logan) Butler and Delores A. Pigsley were re-elected and Alfred (Bud) Lane III was elected to the Tribal Council of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon in elections held Feb. 7. Lillie was re-elected with 389 votes. Bud received 367, and Delores received 333. Eleven candidates ran for the three open positions and the three who received the most votes were elected. Voters also defeated a measure to increase the salary for Tribal Council members. The measure, which would have increased these salaries from $10.16/hour to $15.77/hour, failed by a margin of 389 for to 444 against. Following the swearing-in cere mony for Lillie, Delores, and Bud, the Tribal Council elected the following individuals as officers: Delores Pigsley, chairman; Jessie Davis, vice chairman; JoAnn Miller, secretary; and Jane John, treasurer. Eight hundred fifty ballots were cast out of the 1,972 ballots that were issued. Enrolled members of the Siletz Tribe who are 18 or older are eligible to vote in tribal elections. The eight other candidates received votes as follows: Philip W. Rilatos, Sr., 330; Loraine Butler, 285; George F. Siniscal, 177; Patricia A. Fredrickson, 152; Eva E. Clayton, 147; Laurie Brown-Godfrey, 110; Florence Griggs (s. Francella Mary), 96; and Frank Aspria, Sr., 85. Siletz Gas & Mini-Mart Celebrates Grand Opening Amid a crowd of local residents munching on free hot dogs and slurping free soda, the Siletz Gas & Mini-Mart celebrated its grand opening Jan. 26. Staff members were busy greeting customers, helping them to the hot dogs and soda, and passing out pens and pencils with the name and phone Carson Edwards, Austin Lancaster, and Dakota Burgins enjoy free hot dogs and pop at the grand opening of the Siletz Mini-Mart and Gas.
