Oregon Comedians Highlight Comedy on the Coast A special Comedy on the Coast with three Oregon comedians is set for Jan. 23-24. In the Pacific Northwest, we have our own distinct sense of humor and this show presents an opportunity for the audience and the comedians to share it. Dave Anderson is the headliner, with Susan Rice as the featured comedian and Art Krug as the host. Anderson has accomplished something few comedians can claim - he’s funny without being offensive. His career began at a weekly comedy showcase in Portland, Ore. Soon he was performing at comedy clubs and colleges across the country. In 1986, Anderson appeared on the CBS Morning Show. It was enough to convince a producer at rival station NBC that Dave was funny. Two weeks later, he was hired as a staff comedy writer for NBC’s comedy game show Wordplay. Soon he was busy appearing on such television shows as An Evening at the Improv, Fox’s Comedy Express, and VHl’s Stand-up Spotlight. Anderson was both host and reporter for Portland’s Around Town. He currently is a contributing writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, co-host of the Mark & Dave Show on 1190 KEX in Portland, and has just released his first comedy CD, Who Will Find Me, Who Will Care? Rice, a Pacific Northwest native, began her comedy career in college. Her love of performing arts began in San Diego and continued in Portland, where she worked in banking and pursued an acting career. Rice discovered comedy in a little pub called The Leaky Roof Tavern and from the moment she stepped on stage, she knew she had found her career. For 15 years, she’s been a pro fessional stand-up comedian. Television appearances in clude An Evening at the Improv and Comedy Central. Comedy Clubs include Catch a Rising Star, The Ice House, The Laff Stop, The Improve, and The Laugh Factory. A preacher’s son from Oregon, Art Krug has the calm exterior of the guy next door who always seemed so normal. But onstage, he’s a boiling comic spirit with a unique voice that has placed him among the top comedians in the Northwest. Krug has toured the U.S. and Canada for 18 years and appeared on Showtime’s Comedy Club. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; the show begins at 8 p.m. A no-host bar will be available.
