Siletz Tribe Gathers to
Commemorate Treaty Signing
Siletz Valley School opened Sept. 8 with breakfast for the 162 students and a
flag-raising ceremony. Debby Fawver, secretary of the school board and
president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 732 Auxiliary, and Van Peters,
school administrator, raise the U.S. flag as Reggie Butler Jr. sings and Apples
Lane awaits her performance of the national anthem.

About 150 members of the
Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians
gathered at Tou Velie State Park in
Medford, Ore., on Sept. 10 to commem­
orate the 150*h anniversary of the signing
of the Rogue River Treaty of 1853.
“Today we gather in recognition of
the signing of the Rogue River Treaty,
signed below the bluffs at Table Rock,
