TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Flag Presented to Tribe Flies at Memorial Day Ceremony At the General Council meeting in May, Tribal Council member Rosemary B. Landis presented a flag to the tribe for her son, Vincent R. lundis, who had just returned from Afghanistan and was on his way home to Pennsylvania. Vincent and his buddy, Don Rahol, were placed on the elders’ prayer list before Christmas. As they were shipping out, Rosemary presented them with the small Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon flags, which they flew on their bunks at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. A plaque also was presented to the tribe, reading: To all who see these proceedings: Let it be known that on the 20th day of February in the year 2003, This Flag of the United States of America flew over Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan Ammunition Supply Point during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM representing America's resolve toward the destruction of terrorism, her commitment to preserv-ing freedom, and her inevitable victory. Presented to Confederated Tribes of Silet^ Indians In recognition of exemplary achievement in support of 351s' ORDINANCE COMPANY AFGHANISTAN. Signed by Arthur Hawkes and Matthew W. Broaddus The plaque is on display at the Siletz Tribal administration building and the flag was flown during the Memorial Day ceremony on May 26,2003. Rosemary is searching for others who have served or currently are serving in the military. Bill Guempelein from Pepsi, Inc. presents a check to Craig Whitehead to help with the expenses of the Nesika lllahee Pow-Wow.
