•r >* ** S « LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: On Nov. 8, the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund donated $500 to the Siletz Valley Friends of the Library. We wanted to let CTSI staff and tribal members know how much we appreciate these funds, which will help cover insurance costs. SVFOL (Siletz Valley Friends of the Library) is a 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the growth and quality of our local Siletz Library, to participate in selected projects benefiting Siletz and the surrounding area, and to raise money for a new library. The current library needs to be replaced. SVFOL has committed the energies of its members to designing a building that will be used and enjoyed by all of us living in and around Siletz. The city of Siletz has granted the library the lot just north of the post office. Rich Turi, architect of many Oregon libraries, is currently drafting a building plan. We must rely on grants and other fund-raising activities to supply the money for the new library. If you want to help (contributions to SVFOL are tax deductible) or if you want to know more about the plans, you are welcome to come to the SVFOL monthly meetings at Siletz City Hall or to contact your Siletz librarian, Lorraine Rich, at 541-444-2855. Thank you for caring about the future of all our children, friends, and neighbors. Sincerely, Sunshine Keck, SVFOL member Elizabeth Kosydar, SVFOL member Lorraine Rich, Librarian To the editor: My name is Philip W. I also served as the tribe’s general manager for over six years and as the Human Resources director for Chinook Winds Casino for 3° years. I am a Korean and Vietnam veteran. I served in the U.S. Navy for 25* years and retired as a Navy master chief. If you know me, you know me to be open, honest, and one who always tried to be helpful without regard for personal feelings. I do not let politics or personalities interfere with my ability to make sound decisions or provide assistance, I have always prided myself on main- tainijjg my integrity. The 25th Anni versary Restoration Celebration listed tribal accomplish ments from 1972 to Phil Rilatos. Sr. 2002-1 am honored and proud to say that I was a part of the team that developed and completed those accomplishments as a Tribal Council member or as the tribe’s general manager. Editor-in-Chief: Brenda Bremner Editor: Diane Rodriquez Assistant: Natasha Kavanaugh January 2003 Editor's note: This letter originally was sent to Bunni Snook, administrative assistant, in the Salem Finance Office. Dear Runni: Let me start simply by saying thank you for the time you are putting in during this process. Regardless of the outcome, my wife and I appreciate all your efforts during our first experience as homebuyers. I feel very fortunate to have an advocate as active as the tribe is on my behalf. These last couple of years previous to my current medical insurance coverage through my wife’s work, the tribe's assistance on prescription costs helped considerably. Just recently, my wife and I were blessed with a Gateway computer and we are excited to have it set up in our first home. These are not the only occasions the tribe has come through for us. A couple of years ago, my car needed repairs during a moment of low income. Although I am sure it wasn’t according to my needs that tribal members were sent a check from timber sale proceeds, it did make it possible to pay for the repairs to my vehicle. During my college education, the tribe graciously helped me pay part of the expenses. I am grateful for the programs that have been established for tribal members and their families, and it is the hope of my wife, Michelle, and I that this will be another one of tljose blessings. We thank you for all of your efforts. We are excited, nervous, anxious, maybe a little scared, but look forward to this next chapter in our lives. If there is anything we can do to help you or Dave Litchy from our end, please do not hesitate to contact us. Luke B. Dickson I believe that if elected to the Tribal Council, I would bring considerable experience to the Tribal Council. I was the director of a Job Corps with over 300 staff and students for five years, over six years as the tribe’s general manager, 3° years of casino experience, two-time Tribal Council member, and over 40 years of management experience. I am asking for your support and vote for election to the Tribal Council in the 2003 elections and I pledge to you that if elected, I will always work toward the betterment of the tribe and the expansion and improvement of services to our tribal members, no matter where you live. Above all, please vote. Make sure that you get those signature cards and absentee ballots in. Past elections have been won or lost by only a few votes, so your vote does count. If you have any questions of me, you can contact me at 541 -563-2739 or by fax at 541-563-6789. Phil Rilatos, Sr. Send letters to: Siletz News is free to enrolled Siletz Tribal members.
