TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Lane Plans to Attend PSU Peyton Rhys Vaughan Peyton Joins Vaughan Family We would like to welcome the newest member of our family, Peyton Rhys Vaughan, bom on April 17,2002, at 8:12 a.m., weighing 8 pounds, 12 ounces. Your smile warms our hearts; you’re truly another gift from God. She was born at 3:48 a.m. on Aug. 25. by Dad, Mom, Nolan, Apples, Juanita, and Monique, with love Congratulations, Joe Lane, son of William “Buster” and Kristi Lane, grandson of William Lane and Martha Downey-Lockhart, and great-grandson of Alfred and Maude Lane and Roy and Mae Downey. Joe is a class of 2002 graduate from Toledo High School with a 3.5 GPA. He has lived in the Siletz community all of his life with his many family and friends. We’re very proud of your many Joe Lane athletic and artistic awards. But we’re especially proud of the academic awards and scholarships you have earned, including the Sharon Butler Scholarship. We’re proud that you have chosen to further your education by enrolling at Portland State University and studying for your graphic design degree. What an honor to be the first generation in your family to attend college. We have confidence that you are up for the challenge and the responsibility. But most important, we are proud that you are a healthy, strong, independent young man, a man with many dreams. Joe, you have worked hard for your success so far. Thank you, God. Mahala Joins Fisher, Williams Families Mahala Erin Fisher was bom at 6:57 p.m. on July 22, 2002, at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds, 2-3A ounces, and was 19 inches long. Proud parents are Michael Anthony Fisher and Amie Erin Williams; grandparents are Traci Fisher and Matt Williams, all of Siletz, Ore.; Mike Fisher of Lincoln City, Ore.; and Kim and Alex Sanchez of Marysville, Calif. Great-grandparents are the late Matthew Williams Jr. and Connie Williams, and Dan and Dolly Fisher, all of Siletz; Bill and Linda Hagerman of Marysville; and the late Walter Dickenson and Mary Dickenson of Salem, Ore. Mahala also has numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. October 2002 three cheers! It’s a wonderful time for sharing laughter, camaraderie, dance, and good afternoon delight! A celebration rejuvenates the spirit and breathes life back in the soul. Thank you, Pow-Wow Committee and all who contributed. Our Run to the Rogue always awakens my inner sense. It brings about a sensitivity of humbleness. We are descendants of ancestors whose courage and strength made them survivors. Looking and learning from our past broadens our horizons for tomorrow. We must remember, what we plan today must reflect a balance for all Mahala Erin Fisher tribal descendants.
