We left Siletz after picking up the Siletz-area elders. We traveled to the Salem area office where we met and picked up the Eugene, Salem, and Portland elders. It was a unique trip in which we were all able to travel together on the one big elders bus. We traveled Highway 22 to Sisters, where we stopped and had lunch. It was a beautiful drive; a nice sunny day and mountains all around covered with snow. After lunch and a bit of wandering around a few of the many shops, we continued on to Warm Springs. We stayed at the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort. The accommoda Jaylynn Bagley, a Wann Springs Head Start student, tions were really danced at the elders gathering. She is the daughter of nice and we all had Janet Bagley and granddaughter of Emma Russell. a fun evening. The Elder Honor Day started early on May 10 with registration and visiting with elders from all over Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Their theme was “Our Flags Fly Together.” We took out the Siletz Tribal flag. Veteran Tina Wooten carried the tribal flag in with the honor guard. Veteran Lucky Miles also participated in the honor guard. It was good to see our elders take part. The Warm Springs Head Start children attended in the morning, doing cultural dances for the elders. They also made beaded necklaces for each elder. We ate dried salmon and wild celery, some of their traditional foods, as the afternoon snack. Lunch and dinner also were provided. The elders participated in the games that were played and we all had a wonderful time, full of fun and laughter. Tina Wooten carries the Siletz flag.
