Maybe it isn’t any different for you, but for me, my outlook has taken a 180-degree turn. It is this day, yes this day, that is the first day of the rest of our lives. It is this day, as I peer off to the far horizon, looking deep, deep like the core of our Mother Earth, into the heart of man. Looking deep within, not for problems, but for solutions. It seems to me that too many times, we hear or see others, or ourselves, looking for the fastest way to exploit one another’s weaknesses, or the ways in which we are different. Too many times we show our weaknesses, as we search for the weakness in others. For me, it is sad to see, for we as a people may then never witness the full potential that the Creator instilled within our heart and soul. They say that we were created in our Creator’s image. To me that says we are like a breath of air, or each of us like a drop of water, until unity makes us a river or stream, or perhaps even an ocean. It is this ocean of knowledge in which we thirst, yet we have chosen a teaspoon to drink from. Perhaps we are each a grain of sand that makes up the most beautiful beaches, whereas alone, we are next to nothing. We are the abalone shell your ancestors prayed with, or the trees cut down to build the ships that brought the bearded ones to Turtle Island. We are the redwoods so mighty, strong, and wise, yet even they started from a little seed. So with this, on this day, I pray to you all, that I have planted a seed within you. It was on this day, yes this day, the first day of the rest of our lives, in which I lost my teaspoon, only to find a cup. With open eyes, Eddie E. Ehret E.E.L.
