TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Housing Policy Revisions Due by Shannon Case, Housing Committee Chairman The Housing Committee, with the help and expertise of Brian Leonard, tribal attorney, is working diligently on revising the housing policies to fit the transition under tribal administration. Mutual Help and rental policies will be complied and sent to Tribal Council for approval at the June meeting. Time to Apply for Scholarships Pow-Wow Dance Sponsors Needed Three scholarships are available through the Siletz Tribe: Arthur Bensell Memorial Scholarship: specifically for students enrolled I in a program leading to a degree in education Siletz Scholarship: specifically for students enrolled in a program leading I to a degree in a medical field CTSI - Pepsi Scholarship: open to all students regardless of major The programs manager and Siletz Tribal Education Committee administer | the scholarships. Applications are available annually in April. Application for| all financial aid is required of students. Tribal students are expected to apply, for these scholarships. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 for one academic year. Scholarship recipients are announced in July and awarded at the annual | Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow in August of each year. All three scholarships require, the following: / Completed application form | / Documentation of acceptance at an accredited vocational training or higher | education institution, two-year, four-year, or graduate school / 500- to 1,000-word essay on a specific annual theme / Three letters of recommendation The Education Committee selects scholarship recipients on a competitive I basis. Factors considered during the evaluation process include: Applicant’s academic achievements Quality of applicant’s essay >• Strength of letters of recommendation I The Pow-Wow Committee is currently looking for dance sponsors for this year’s Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow. By sponsoring a category, you will make it more personal. Your name will be on the winner’s envelope and will be read when the prize money is awarded to the dancers. Dance categories include both male/female traditional, male/female fancy, grass, and jingle. You can sponsor, or co-sponsor with the committee, a category in your name, your family’s name, or in memory of a loved one. Categories and their costs are listed below.
