RUN TO THE ROGUE Run to the Rogue a Success The seventh annual Run to the Rogue was held in September. The run commemorates the tortuous journey tribal ancestors from the Rogue River country were forced to take in the mid-1800s from their homeland to the Siletz Reservation. The run began with Head Start children, staff, parents, and Tribal Council walking down the hill from the Siletz Tribal Community Center and ended about 51 hours later at Oak Flat on the Illinois River near Agness, Ore. A group of children, tribal elders, and others walked the last mile down to Oak Flat. Tribal programs staff and volunteers prepared a salmon dinner and the feather dancers performed at dusk. The tribal Culture, Education, Pow-Wow, and Youth Services programs coordinated the event for approximately 150 participants. Staff included Robert Kentta, Tami Miner, Ramona Fisher, Amie Williams, George Nagel, Kitti Hostler, Selene Rilatos, Rusty Butler, Tony Whitehead, Terry McDowell, and Craig Whitehead. All participants are invited to the Restoration Pow-Wow on Nov. 17 at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Ore., where all will be honored.
