TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS Herrmann Wins Contest Chelsey Herrmann, 9, of Salem, Ore., is the winner of a Sonicare toothbrush (valued at $150). Chemawa Orthodontic Clinic and Dr. McCollough sponsored the contest offered to young Native American patients currently in braces at Chemawa. Three criteria were established for eligibility for the drawing: good oral hygiene, no broken brackets, and on time for appointments. Patients meeting these requirements were eligible for the drawing. It took a big commitment and lots of work just to have your name in the box! The winner’s name was drawn in April. Congratulations, Chelsey! Chelsey Herrmann Keller Oversees Fifth Fishing Season I’m Kim Keller, wife of tribal member Jeff Keller (grandson of Dan and Dolly Fisher). We live in Valdez, Alaska, and we receive Siletz News every month. My husband is too humble to toot his own horn, but I think he deserves some recognition, even though we don’t live in Oregon. We’ve read about cousins, aunts, uncles, and their achievements, so I think it’s only fair that I bring to your attention the achievements of my husband. He had a dream to be a commercial fisherman and fish for Chinook and sockeye salmon on the Copper River Flats near Cordova, Alaska. He researched the cost of a boat, insurance, and fishing permit, then saved fordown payments, and now he’s in his fifth fishing season and doing very well. Jeff Keller He’s a perfect example of a Native American who has worked hard, received little help financially other than a bank loan, and was persistent enough to fulfill a dream. Nothing was handed to him, nor did he expect it. Norton Graduates from OCCC Congratulations Tribal Graduates!
