LETTERS TO THE EDITOR/TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS To the editor: The Tribal Elders here in Siletz and other areas (Salem, Portland, and Eugene) have signed their names agreeing to having an assisted living (24 hours) care project started. A small practical utilitarian house with three or four bedrooms to start off with. Patients are to help themselves as much as they can with a minimal amount of assistance. We are not interested in a country club facility that would cost millions of dollars. We need to get this project started as soon as possible. With the help of the knowledgeable medical personnel and the least amount of funding, we hope and pray that this worthwhile project will come to a fruition very soon. To the editor: Many of the old sayings are true ... “I don’t have the words to say how much I appreciated” ... “If only you knew how much that meant to me”... “Your thoughtfulness made this time easier for me”... We have all heard and said these things many times. How can anyone use words to say what a heart so deeply feels? Now it is our turn to try to tell you all how being there for us during the loss of Dolores Rilatos has affected us and how much your being there for us in so many ways continues to help us in our time of grief. Our lives have been forever changed through the loss of one woman who was a wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. Your thoughtfulness and caring were overwhelming. The donations of food were greatly appreciated. To those who volunteered to dig the grave - it is almost beyond words to express the feeling of honor that you gave to us through your work. The ladies who worked at the Tribal Center took over a job that we could not have managed. The beautiful flowers that surrounded her must have been joyful to her because all her life she loved flowers and her window boxes were a riot of color. To each and every one, we simply but sincerely say thank you. Finally, thank you for the gift of yourselves. Stopping by to visit, to retell old stories and to laugh at memories we all shared began a process of healing hearts that felt as though they would never be whole again. It is in the giving of your friendship, love, and respect that our new journey and hers have begun and for this too we say thank you.
