LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: This summer my son, Stephen Ransier, was able to participate in the Tribal Youth Program through the Portland area office. He benefited greatly from this very special program. He learned many skills through hours of training that he may not have been given if this program was not available. When the time ran out, the owner wanted to keep him on working around his school activities because he became valuable to him with all his knowledge of the business. I am thoroughly looking forward to next summer for my youngest son, Colby, who will be eligible for this excellent program. Thank you so much for giving our kids this wonderful opportunity. Sincerely, Kenya Ransier To the editor: It is time to start considering who you will elect for Tribal Council. I don’t want to put Chinook Winds revenues and expenses in this letter, but would want you to think about the revenues. With the 1999 Tribal Council, there was only a 4 percent return on the revenues and for monetary value, each tribal member has experienced how much that return was to you. The expenses for 1999 were almost equal to the revenues. Chinook Winds should be producing more than a 4 percent return to the tribe. Do you want that kind of return on your money? The 1999 Council evidently approved of how the general manager was operating Chinook Winds because he was allowed to remain in that position. Being a prior Council member, I know for a fact that one Councilperson cannot produce a change when there is a quorum opposing changes. If tribal members want a change, please remember to vote. If you are not registered to vote, call the Enrollment Department for a voter registration card, sign it, and return it as soon as possible. When the ballots are sent and you do not receive your ballot by Jan. 1,2001, call the Election Board for a ballot. Your vote does count! Don’t settle for the same Council members and a 4 percent return on your revenues. Lillie Butler To the editor: We are writing you today to inform you of a new business venture, describe the business, and request some information. It is the intent and purpose of this business to enable local and other community Native American artists of the beading, drawing, and regalia disciplines a place in the market to sell their wares at a reasonable price. This will be on a consignment basis only at this time. The artist will be paid a fair market value for their piece minus a 10 percent free for handling the object. We will work with the individual on a piece-by-piece basis and begin at the local gatherings at this time. Thank you for your time and consideration to this request for information. We anticipate a long and fruitful business venture in this aspect of life. Sincerely, David and Susan Clark (Kamosuk Mahkook - Bead Store & Consignments) Editor’s note: Please contact David and Susan Clark at 541-994-0488 or cocos3cats@wcn.net if you are interested in participating.
