Spiritual Runners in Oregon in July Spiritual runners on a journey from Alaska to Mexico City will pass through Oregon from July 5 to 15. The purpose of this run is to reinforce unity and cultural exchange among all indigenous nations from North, Central, and South America. The journey also is a prayer for the traditional values of indigenous people and a prayer for the healing of the land. Peace and Dignity Journeys has runners in North and South America. The South American runners started on March 18 at Tierra del Fuego, which is at the southern tip of the continent. The Northern group coming through Oregon started on May 1 in Chickaloon, Alaska. The run will end on Oct. 22 at the Ancient Temples of Teotihuacan near Mexico City when the two groups meet. The run was done in 1992 through the Midwest and in 1996 came through Portland and the Willamette Valley. The tentative route this year is to enter Oregon at Celilo on July 5 from the Yakama Nation. On subsequent days, the run will go to the Sun Dance Camp at Wamic, Warm Springs, Sisters, Eugene, the Sun Dance Camp near Yoncalla, Reedsport, Coos Bay, and Gold Beach, and leave Oregon at the Smith River Rancheria on July 15.
