The inspiration for one of his biggest hits, “Mr. Lonely,” came from his experience in the Army. Its heart wrenching sentiments reached out to many a lonely soldier along with reminding America what members of the Armed Forces were experiencing. “My Melody of Love” not only became No. 1 in the nation, but was embraced by Polish Americans'around the country as their new national anthem. Not long after, Vinton’s best-selling autobiography, “The Polish Prince,” was published.
