ANNOUNCEMENTS 1999 TRIBAL ELECTIONS Higher Education & AVT Prospective & Returning Students TRIBAL COUNCIL CANDIDATE STATEMENT Below is an additional candidate statement. The Election Committee will be mailing out a complete booklet which includes all statements. We are publishing those that were sent to us directly by the candidates. POSTING DECERTIFIED TOBALCOUNOL CANDIDATES FOR 1999 ELECTION I The following Tribal Members are certified I as eligible Tribal Council Candidates. J Name & Roll #; Clifford W. I was appointed to Tribal Council August, 1998. I previously served on Council for 8 1/2 years during the last 17 years. I have been married 43 years to tribal member, Junior John. We have 3 children, Glendora, Diana, Bill, and 4 grandchildren. Junior and I both retired last year thus giving me the time and energy to fulfill my Council duties. I feel the present Council is truly working together to get Programs, Budget and Projects in working order. We will be involved in our first year of our 5- yearplan for Gaming Revenues, completing Timber sales, starting a new housing project, entering a joint contract with Grand Ronde in the Chemawa Clinic and fulfilling our obligations as a Self- Governance Tribe. I am proud to be a Confederated Tribes of Siletz Member. I am proud to be a family member of the Brown, Carson, Service and John families. I am proud to be a member of the present Tribal Council that is working to bring all Tribal Members and all Tribal employees to their highest potential possible. If possible attend the Candidates Fair on July 9, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the Siletz Community Center to get all candidates views on any concern you may have. AT THE TRIBAL COMMUNITY CENTER IN SILETZ Any questions concerning the Tribal Election or process need to be forwarded to Dave Bartels, Election Director at (541) 444-8393. ' Federal Financial Aid - Apply for aid as soon as possible. The deadline is June 30, 1999. Forms are available at your local college, university or high school counseling office. If you have internet access, you may use the following addresses: http.7/www. fafsa.ed.gov to apply, and http://www.ed,gov/offices/OPE/ gxprpss.html to download the Federal Application for federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Oregon Financial Aid-There is no deadline, but is contingent on date application received and funding available. Siletz Tribal Financial Aid - Apply for aid as soon as possible. The deadline is June 30, 1999. Award is contingent on completed application receipt date and funding available. The Siletz Scholarship and Arthur Bensell Memorial Scholarship will be announced in the Tribal Newsletter. These Scholarships usually have a deadline of July 30th. Awards are made at the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow in August. The Summit will be held at Chinook Winds Gaming & Convention Center, Lincoln City, Oregon May 17 - 20,1999. A Call to Conference and more information will be out the first of Februaiy. Call 1-800-922-1399 for Mona Fisher, Caroline Easter or Bev Youngman to be placed on the mailing list Financial Aid Workshops Community College Board Appointee Beverly Youngman, Programs Manager, was recently selected to serve as an interim Board member for Oregon Coast Community College. Youngman was selected through an interview process with OCCC’s Board members. When asked for comments, she stated, “I wish to thank the people that recommended me to the Board and College President Patrick O’Connor for consideration. You know who you are!”. She further stated that she is interested in the growth and potential of the college and further collaboration with the Tribe. Financial Aid Workshops will be held in each area office. Comprehensive Education Plan The Comprehensive Education Plan is now available at your area office. If you wish to receive one through the mail, please call Mona Fisher, Caroline Easter or Bev Youngman at 1 — 800-922-1399. The plan will be updated each year and your comments and ideas are welcome for consideration and possible inclusion in the next edition.
