COUGARS SHINE BRIGHT IN FIRST MEET COUGARS EXCELL IN THEIR FIRST TRACK MEET, HOPEFULLY A FORSHADOWING OF ACHIVENENTS TO COME STORY AND PHOTOS WILLIAM FARRIS THE CLACKAMAS PRINT ’ Track and field season is.under way at Clackamas Community College and the first meets have left students and coaches excited for the coming season. With great performances and hopeful outlooks, this year is shaping up for the track and field team. Coach Keoni McHone shared his pride in the excellent performances of the athletes has high hopes for the rest of the season by saying “ It’ s going pretty good so far, we’ve had some pretty strong performances in a lot of different event areas?’ Performances like that of Jordan G lo d e n , who got a th r e e -fo o t personal best in the long jum p and ran a well executed 110-meter high hurdle race in his first meet. A nother student Lydia Pavlenko ’ ' . » ~ ’ continues this display of excellent achievement by winning the triple jum p even t, along w ith another strong perform ance in the m en’ s triple jump from Kwan Carter and Devin Meade. The women fo u r-b y -o n e took second in their com petition while the mens four-by-four took second by only two-hundredths of a second such a close race that the athletes didn’t even know who crossed the line first until the results were posted. “ It was a really tight finish, with Carter chasing the guy down at the fin ish ,” McHone said full of glee “ It was good solid performances, so we’ll see how things keep progressing.” “ Coming in}l I think we have a solid team this year,” track team member “ It was good solid performances, so we’ll see how things keep progressing.” -Keoni Mchone J ' ~ .... Kashta Booker said.“ Our last meet was at Linfield, the ice breaker, and we did pretty good against all the, you know, D-three schools and all the other community colleges.” Most of his teammates shared his upbeat view for the rest of the season as they took advantage of the warming weathei to practice on the field for their upcoming meets. “ This last m eet I th in k we did really good, and being the first couple m eets and were already im p ro v in g , e v eryo n e ’ s g e ttin g new P .R ’ s [personal records] I am honestly excited to see how this ls going to go,” freshman William “JJ” Walker said.
