COLLEGE SERVES UP VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATED STUDENT GOVERNMENT HOSTS A VOLLEYBALL GAME FOR ANYBODY TO PLAY BY JAMES HARLEY photo by Victoria Tinker Every term , the Associated Student Government typically h o sts an in tra m u ra l a th le tic ev en t fo r C la ck a m a s Com m unity College students to enjoy, and the trend has continued into.spring term. This term , A SG hosts an intram ural volleyball gam e once a week. On Tuesdays, A SG sets up a volleyball net in the grass betw een the Com m u nity Center and Barlow H all. A ny CCC student that stops by between noon and 1 p .m . can participate as long as they sign a waiver. Alexa Carrera, the ASG member in charge o f the event, talked about the event and encouraged anybody to join and ensured the game would be laid back. “ It’ s super chill/’ Carrera said. “ If enough people show, it’ s a little com petitive, but it’s m ostly chill and just to have fu n .” In the fa ll, there was flag football and soccer. However during the w inter term there was no intramural games because A SG couldn’ t find anybody to take care o f it. So far this term there have been only a few people who have shown up each week, aside from when it was rained out twice in the first two w eeks, but Carrera looks to improve it and get more people to show up. “ I still have to get the word out a little m ore,” Carrera said, “ but once it starts getting sunny out, people are going to be outside and want to play a little more, so they’ll see the [volleyball] n e t.” If it’s a nice day it is hard to miss, considering it’s roughly in the middle of the campus. According to Alex Ticknor, an ASG member who helps set up and watch it every week, it is easy to play. “ All you have to do is sign a waiver in case you get hurt,” Ticknor said. “ Once you sign that, you can play.” Kristina Shevchenko, who played just a couple weeks ago, said she sees potential in it. “ 1 d efin itely w ould com e b ack , I w ill be here every Tuesday,” Shevchenko said. “ I th in k if enough people know about this going on, it could be a big thing. ” A SG plans to continue to have events sim ilar to this every fall, winter and spring term A volleyball net will be set up every Tuesday that isn’t wet and ASG encourages anybody to join and invite anybody they would want to play with. “ Everybody is welcome,” Carrera said, “ so don’t be afraid to stop by and say *Hey I wanna play.’ ” Ryan Tahtinen serves the ball during an intramural volleyball game In the quad near the Community Center. 4 Baseball @ Lane CC 1 p.m. SPORTS EVENTS 8 Track: Linfield Invite GM3 Warriors @ Blazers 5:30 p.m. on ABC 10 Softball vs Clark College 3 p.m. 11 12 GM5 Blazers @ Warriors (If Needed) TNT MONDAY TUESDAY 13 Softball vs SW Oregon CC 3 p.m. Baseball @ Lower Columbia C C 4p.m .
